Backend & connections
Django and Django Channels for WebSockets and asynchronous communication; WebRTC for peer-to-peer connections.
SOFTWARE PROJECT / IN DEVELOPMENT
A cross-platform app concept for staying connected during group activities, combining voice communication with personal or shared music.
THE IDEA
Tethered grew out of my experience cycling with a group. Riders at the back can struggle to communicate with people at the front, especially when someone falls behind.
The intended initial experience lets people form voice groups while listening to their own music or shared audio. Shared playlists, group route planning, and location tracking are planned features.
The initial user interface has been built. Backend work includes servers and WebRTC integration for peer-to-peer connections. The project is still in development; the planned communication features are not presented as a released product.
INTERFACE
The home screen brings together user search, online favorites, friends’ rooms, and nearby public rooms. The profile uses horizontally scrollable friend lists that respond to changes in the friends database.
EARLY DESIGN
Initial login, main, and group wireframes created with Moqups.
TECHNICAL DIRECTION
Django and Django Channels for WebSockets and asynchronous communication; WebRTC for peer-to-peer connections.
React Native, Expo, and NativeBase for the mobile interface and development workflow.
SQLite for the database, with Spotify integration and Google Maps route planning in the project’s intended scope.
